Boston Fudge Cake

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 egg whites
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 lb brown sugar
- 1 cup cream
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Recipe
- 1 cream shortening and sugar; add beaten yolks.
- 2 sift dry ingredients and add alternately with sour cream and water.
- 3 fold in beaten egg whites and vanilla.
- 4 bake in 10" square pan at 325* for 50 minutes.
- 5 caramel icing: mix all ingredients toegether, boil 20 minutes; then beat a little and spread on cooled cake.
