Boston Fudge Cake

Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 50 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 lb brown sugar
  • 1 cup cream
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe

  • 1 cream shortening and sugar; add beaten yolks.
  • 2 sift dry ingredients and add alternately with sour cream and water.
  • 3 fold in beaten egg whites and vanilla.
  • 4 bake in 10" square pan at 325* for 50 minutes.
  • 5 caramel icing: mix all ingredients toegether, boil 20 minutes; then beat a little and spread on cooled cake.
