french toast pancakes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • heat 2 teaspoons oil in a griddle or skillet over medium-high heat.

  • 1/4 cup rolled oats, or more to taste
  • 1 sweet potato, chopped
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vanilla whey protein powder, or more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, or as needed

  • place rolled oats into a food processor and grind to flour. place sweet potato into a large pot and cover with salted water; bring to a boil. reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until very soft, about 20 minutes. drain.
  • blend sweet potato, eggs, banana, and milk in a blender until smooth; pour batter into a large bowl. stir protein powder and ground oats into batter.
  • heat vegetable oil in a skillet over low heat. drop batter, about 1/4 cup per pancake, into the skillet, and cook until form and the edges are dry, 3 to 4 minutes. flip and cook until browned on the other side, 3 to 4 minutes. repeat with remaining batter.

  • 1 quart oil for deep frying
  • 6 (6 ounce) fillets lamb sirloin
  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 2 cups dry bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • salt and pepper to taste

  • heat deep-fryer to 350 degrees f (175 degrees c).
  • place meat on a solid, level surface and pound with a mallet until it is 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick.
  • place the flour and bread crumbs in separate dishes. soup plates are useful. lightly beat the eggs and add the milk. lightly season with salt and pepper and put this into another soup plate.
  • coat the meat in flour, patting lightly by hand. using a fork to hold the meat, dip into the egg mixture and drain slightly. next, coat with the breadcrumbs by lightly pressing the crumbs into the meat. when each piece of meat has been prepared, deep fry in cooking oil until golden brown.

Coal Miners Pasties

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups lard
  • 10 tablespoons ice water
  • 2 pounds top round steak, cut into 1/4 inch cubes
  • 5 red potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 3 turnips, peeled and cubed
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon salt

  • place the flour, 2 teaspoons of salt, and the lard in a bowl. quickly rub the lard into the flour with your fingertips until it resembles small peas. pour in the ice water, and form into a ball. add more water if it feels too dry. divide the dough into 6 balls, and wrap in plastic. chill one hour.
  • in a bowl, combine the meat, turnips, potatoes, onions, remaining 1 tablespoon salt, and pepper.
  • preheat the oven to 400 degrees f (205 degrees c).
  • roll out one of the balls on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. using a cake pan, trace a 9 inch circle in the dough; cut out the circle. place about 1 1/2 cups of the meat mixture into the middle of the circle. fold the edges of the circle up to meet along the top of the meat filling, and crimp the dough along the top to seal. repeat until all dough is used up. with a spatula, transfer the pasties to an ungreased sheet.
  • bake the pasties for 45 minutes, or until golden. serve hot or at room temperature.

breakfast upside down cake

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 large baking potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 10 slices bacon
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. add potatoes, red bell pepper, garlic and onion, and cook, stirring occasionally until potatoes are tender. cover the pan with a lid for faster cooking.
  • preheat the oven to 350 degrees f (175 degrees c). line the bottom of an 8 or 9 inch cake pan with parchment paper. set aside.
  • fry bacon in a skillet over medium heat, or cook in the microwave, until crisp. drain, crumble and set aside. sprinkle the cheese in the bottom of the prepared pan. sprinkle bacon crumbles evenly over the cheese. scoop the potato mixture into the pan so it is evenly distributed. whisk together eggs and milk with a fork, and season with a little salt and pepper. pour evenly over the food in the pan.
  • bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, just until the egg is set. remove from the oven and run a knife around the outer edge. flip a serving plate, and remove the parchment paper. serve and enjoy.
