Chocolate Angel Food Cake - Homemade

Ingredients

- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 12 large egg whites
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 dash salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla or 2 teaspoons almond extract
Recipe
- 1 preheat the oven to 325.
- 2 in a small bowl, combine the flour, cocoa and 3/4 cup of the sugar.
- 3 in a large bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy.
- 4 add the cream of tartar and the salt to the egg whites.
- 5 beat the whites until billowy.
- 6 add the remaining sugar in, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating continuously.
- 7 add the vanilla or almond.
- 8 when all the sugar is added, start adding the flour mix a tablespoon at a time.
- 9 (use only a spotlessly clean rubber spatula).
- 10 when all the sugar and flour mix is added, scoop the batter into a 10" ungreased tube pan.
- 11 bake 50-60 minutes, until cake tests done.
- 12 let the cake cool 1-2 hours before trying to slice.
