Apple Torte

Total Time: 1 hr 15 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1/2 cup sweet creamy butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 medium apples, peeled,cored and sliced into 1/4 inch wedges (i prefer granny smith)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • cinnamon-sugar mixture, for topping

Recipe

  • 1 preheat the oven to 350°f.
  • 2 grease a 9-inch springform pan.
  • 3 add lemon juice and nutmeg to sliced apples, set aside.
  • 4 cream the butter and the sugar until fluffy.
  • 5 add the eggs and vanilla, mix well.
  • 6 sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt, and add to batter.
  • 7 spread the dough in the greased springform pan.
  • 8 layer the apple slices over the dough in concentric circles, overlapping each row (i like to leave a small space between slices otherwise cake tends not to rise enough).
  • 9 sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture generously over the top.
  • 10 bake for 50 to 60 minutes until a tester inserted in the middle comes out clean.
