Apfelklosse (german Apple Cake)

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 40 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 10
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 beaten egg yolks
  • 5 cups apples, peeled, sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon clove
  • 2 egg whites, slightly beaten

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 350°f.
  • 2 combine 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoons salt and baking powder. cut in butter as for pie crust. add egg yolks. press half in the bottom of a 10 x 15 inche jelly roll pan.
  • 3 combine apples, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. spread over the bottom
  • 4 crust. crumble remaining crust over the filling.
  • 5 brush with egg whites and bake for 30-40 minutes.
  • 6 serve with a vanilla custard sauce or ice cream.
